Jake is a musical theatre artist in New York and an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches lyric writing and runs the Score Lab seminar in Berklee NYC's Writing & Production for Musical Theater program. He trained in classical piano and composition at the New England Conservatory, took his BA at NYU's Gallatin School and his master's at Berklee NYC, and has performed everywhere from A Chorus Line in Tokyo to 42nd Street at the Ogunquit Playhouse. His own writing made him a Fred Ebb Award finalist and twice a semi-finalist for the Eugene O'Neill National Music Theater Conference, and his classical composition took first place at the Golden Key Competition in Vienna. He teaches Detar students online — piano, voice, songwriting, and composition — and he's the teacher for the student who wants to write their own material and understand exactly why it works.
