Piano lessons in Santa Barbara

Our founding program — from first scales to songs you're proud of.

Piano is where Detar started, and it's still our deepest bench of teachers. Whether your student wants a classical foundation, pop chords, or to write their own songs, we match them with a teacher who builds every lesson around music they actually want to play.

What you'll learn

  • Reading music and real technique — posture, hands, timing
  • Chords and how songs are actually built
  • Pieces and songs in the styles you love, classical to pop
  • The confidence to play in front of other people

Styles: Classical, pop, jazz, and songwriting.

Who teaches piano

All ages and levels, from first-timers to advanced students.

Your first lesson is free

Your first lesson is free. Your teacher gets to know the student, finds out what they want to play, and has them making real sound at the keys the same day — no dry drills before the fun starts.

Why learn at Detar

A real recording studio

Every room is treated and mic'd — students learn where records actually get made, not a strip-mall practice room.

A band to play in

Our band program puts students together for real rehearsals and a show at a Santa Barbara venue — the fastest way to fall in love with playing.

Then you record it

Advanced students cut their own tracks in the studio with founder Gus DeTar — the journey from first lesson to finished song, under one roof.
